Flower of May

Nowadays we have nice weather.

This flower's name is "SATSUKI" which means "May" in Japanese.
Its bright color is beautifu with blue sky.

Even in my neighborhood, I can meet such wonderful scenery.
Isn't it foolish to go on an outing where many people crowd!?

"International Year of Biodiversity"

As you may know, 2010 is the International Year of Biodiversity.
(The website of UN)

In Aichi Japan, the event for celebrating the launch of this Year was held yesterday. It was intended to arouse the enthusiasm toward "10th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity(COP10)" which will be held in Aichi this October.

I participated this event because I wanted to listen to the speech of C.W.Nicol. He is an old Englishman but now an old Japanese as he gained a Japanese citizenship in 1995. He is a writer and also a naturalist who have been working for the reforestation of the Japanese forests.

His speech gripped the attention of the audience. I was also the one who was impressed by his words. He didn't talk a lofty thing, but he just told us his experiences, feelings and ideas in simple words (in Japanese).

He said at the end of his speech;
"Diversity (not only the biodiversity but also the diversity of the humain) contains lots of possibilities. Let's take advantage of COP10 to appeal our beautiful nature and our potential possibilities to the world! "

TOMO CHANNEL open!

Hello, friends!
It's Tomoko in Gifu, Japan.

I started this blog "TOMO CHANNEL" in order to let my friends know about what I'm doing or what I'm thinking now. At the same time, it will be very meaningful for me to have an opportunity to write in English.

It will be my pleasure if you enjoy my blog.

↑We had 26cm of snow in the first day of 2010! My father built a snowman in the back yard for his grandson.

↑Japanese goes to shrines for praying in the new year. I went to Oosu-kannon this year, but there was so many people waiting for their turns to pray. We have waited 20 minutes before our turn came.
